3° R&D WORKSHOP – GLORIA, GLORIA by Marcos Caramés-Blanco
From 27 to 31 October, Italian director Lisa Ferlazzo Natoli and her ensemble lacasadargilla will explore Gloria, Gloria by French playwright Marcos Caramés-Blanco. Translated into Italian by Attilio Scarpellini, the play unfolds over twenty-four hours of chaotic, furious emancipation — a road movie out of bounds, driven by excess, desire, and fire. It tells the story of the day when, for no apparent reason, Gloria steps out of her house. It’s dark, and the ordinary mechanics of life suddenly break down.
Throughout the week, Lisa Ferlazzo Natoli — together with Tania Garribba, Fortunato Leccese, Anna Mallamaci, Emiliano Masala, and Petra Valentini — will work closely with the playwright and translator, delving into the characters and the intricate process of translating and adapting the text from French into Italian.
The workshop will culminate on October 31 with a public presentation, featuring a reading of the play followed by a Q&A session with the artists.
From the author
“From October 27 to 31, I had the chance to discover the beautiful Italian translation of my play Gloria Gloria by Attilio Scarpellini, as well as to meet a passionate group of actors who did wonderful work exploring and delving into the play. We also began to explore my most recent text, Bois brûlé.
I felt deeply honored to meet them, along with the director, Lisa Ferlazzo-Natoli, whose sharp and insightful perspective on contemporary writing allowed her to approach my work with great sensitivity and warmth.
I feel truly grateful for this opportunity, it’s rare enough to connect across different countries, but even more rare and precious to come together around a play I wrote in a completely different context. Many thanks to Playground and the whole team for this opportunity, from the bottom of my heart.”
